1 John 1:1 – Creation is about God’s glory, about the singular work he is fulfilling in us and through us and for us.
The Text
And that life was revealed, and seen, and testified, and declared to you that eternal life which was [according] to the father, and revealed to us.
Ἀλληγορία (allēgoria) Remez (רֶמֶז) (Hinted Meaning)
- Eternal Life – the life revealed is not ordinary, terrestrial, mortal, fallen life but the extraterrestrial, supernatural, other dimensional living that is experienced after this first mortal life. It is no ordinary existence and transcends our substance. It is beyond our deminsionality and our comprehension. It appears the antithesis of the second death, which is the end of the living and even the disembodied.
- Revealed, and Seen, and Testified, and Declared – this is the message of the cross, revealed, made known, declared, announced, and proclaimed to the ends of our world, the earth, and even beyond to the furthest reaches of our creation. Beyond even this, we know from Scripture that the angelic host are informed by us of God’s master plan for our redemptive story.
Διδασκαλία (didaskalia) Derash (דְּרַשׁ) (Homiletical Meaning)
- This is no ordinary life revealed to us through the Word. We did not ask for what has and is happening or what has been given. We are not able to do it ourselves.
Μυστικός (mystikos) Sod (סוֹד) (Mystical Meaning)
- Revelation is key to God’s redemptive interaction. He is preoccupied with declaring to his creations his power and making his name known.
Μυστήριον (mystērion) Pesher (פְּשַׁר) (Prophetic Meaning)
- None
